The project consists of creating a media library in an old farmhouse, an interesting example of vernacular architecture. Our first intention was to repair the existing roof, which proved impossible because it was too damaged. After which, we asked ourselves the question, why redo a large dark coat, when a library wants to be bright?
In return, we opted to create a floor, which allows us to gain more useful surface area and have more natural light. The new floor rests on a thin metal structure placed inside the existing envelope, above the existing beams, preserved so as not to weaken the stability of the walls that we are keeping.
Old and new do not overlap, a dialogue is established between them. The design of the vertical and regular floor gives a certain classicism to the building, in accordance with the new public program.
